Have you heard of Startup Weekend? Our CEO and co-founder, Bill Rayburn, judged last year’s Jackson event. Each year, Startup Weekend brings like-minded entrepreneurs together for a weekend of company creation. In just 54 hours, creators take an initial idea from the Friday night pitches to a mind-spinning startup company on Sunday night. FNC is built on entrepreneurship and we love jumpstarting new ideas, so we thought we’d share this info with you.
Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 400 past events in 100 countries around the world in 2011.
Don’t think it’s just developers. We welcome all marketing maestros, design gurus, business development wizards, legal geniuses and the specialist of startups — the jack of all trades — to come together as one, and create a harmony that can only be envied by the corporate world.
Other exciting perks for Startup Weekend attendees:
Co-founder dating: Startup Weekend is hands down the best way to find someone you can actually launch a startup with.

Let’s talk about Friday night. It’s all about networking and the pitches. Those with an idea, and who are brave enough to stand in front of 40+ strangers, give their one-minute elevator pitches to the crowd. The ideas that people like and want to work with then get created. From then on, within 48 hours you have to deliver a product and business concept that can stand up to the harsh light of day. Mentors will be on hand to help you fine-tune the idea conceived only 12 hours ago into a working company with huge potential profits — all in 36 hours. Sounds intense? It is!
Sunday night is where the jury panel comes in. Seasoned professionals who have been through the startup mill many times over will offer feedback and find the areas for improvement in the plan to evaluate the chances of real-world success. The winners will receive prizes to help them grow their startup beyond the Startup Weekend event.
From there? Well, it’s all up to you. Startup Weekend can help you start your dream. It’s up to you to live it out.
